Sumter County Gallery of Art a small, well-loved place for creativity

Sumter County Gallery of Art a small, well-loved place for creativity

Co-located with Patriot's Hall, the Sumter County Gallery of Art in Sumter, South Carolina, is a cozy gallery space with two exhibition halls. At my visit, both were displaying South Carolinian painter Stephen Chesley.

South Carolinian sights, sunsets and landscapes filled the art. Chesley's impressive range highlighted his proficiency in a broad range of art types. A southernor born and raised mostly in Georgia and South Carolina, I loved the scapes and environments in the paintings.

After touring the art, I spoke with the curator, whose love and attention was paramount throughout the gallery. She had obviously given her heart to the place and it showed in both the curation and in her helpfulness in helping others in and around the gallery. The gallery had become a living part of the community.
