Charlie's Cafe delivers awesomeness year after year in Norfolk

Charlie's Cafe delivers awesomeness year after year in Norfolk

This is, no kidding, my favorite breakfast place in the country. My first encounter was back in 03 after moving to the Ghent District of Norfolk down on the corner of Princess Anne and Granby. During a recent trip back to Norfolk, I decided to break from my usual Mom's Omelet -- which I've long called among the best omelets ever, anywhere -- to try the Irish Omelet, made with corned beef hash and potatoes.

I was in omelet heaven. It was a perfect blend of all its ingredients and I foodgasmed the entire time. I breakfasted with a friend of mine -- his first time there, and he was very impressed -- and we enjoyed the back porch on a perfectly comfortable late-May morning. Service was quick and very friendly, decor was homemade and interesting, food was impeccable, as usual. Every time I visit Hampton Roads (the common name for the metro area), I always try to get up early enough to visit, and it has never failed to make me happy. If you love breakfast, you'll love Charlie's Cafe.
